will you tell me about the world?

i wholeheartedly love the earth. i am more than grateful to be alive and experience it alongside countless other people. in the most beautiful way i can be, i often find myself overwhelmed by just how vast our little (relatively speaking) planet is. on a large scale, different countries have different cultures and practices which is wonderful, sure! โ€” but the kind of thing i love to think about is when different countries somehow have similar habits, thousands of kilometers away from each other1 or when two cities that border each other couldn't be any more different.

and that's just talking about the present! i quite enjoy history and love learning about it, but the sheer amount of years i have to catch up on about the past is a lot to swallow. it dizzies me when i think about how much i've yet to learn about our home the same way i stress about how many movies i haven't seen or how many books i haven't read. or i guess, in a broader sense, how much of the world i still haven't experienced. coming home from an international vacation is always bittersweet because of that.

so i would like to implore you, people of bear, if you've made it to the end of my post, to please send me any nugget or tidbit of extremely local information you might have about the place you live in. anything goes: a meal popular only in your city, a mildly famous local personality, a piece of neighborhood gossip, a slang word that only makes sense in your country, that type of stuff. i want to hear about it and i want to know! i hope you'll reach out <3

  1. recently, jessie buckley's hometown of killarney has taken upon itself to hang up posters with her face on it for her oscar nom (congrats to her, btw) which reminds me of the kind of tarpaulins filipinos put up when someone accomplishes an achievement or the much more recent memey philippines is proud of uuuu tarpaulins people put up to celebrate celebrity milestones, inspired by the former of course!
